SPIRITUAL PARENTING (II)

"This is now the third time that I am ready to come to visit you—and I will not make any demands on you. It is you I want, not your money. After all, children should not have to provide for their parents, but parents should provide for their children" (2 Corinthians 12:14 GNT) What the Bible does not say about a father A father is a Christian who has grown to the point of raising younger Christians after God. Thus, a father is also a Christian, a child of God for that matter. A father is not a special Christian, however, he is to be accorded much respect in the sense that he is spiritually advanced and offers guidance to younger and growing Christians.   1. The Bible does not say that a father is a covering for the Christian. If you have put on Christ, then he is your life jacket. You don't need to be under human authority to be completely safe. Besides, the success of your father is not a guarantee that you will be successful yourself.  2. The Bible does not say that a f...

SPIRITUAL PARENTING

"This is now the third time that I am ready to come to visit you—and I will not make any demands on you. It is you I want, not your money. After all, children should not have to provide for their parents, but parents should provide for their children" (2 Corinthians 12:14 GNT) Spiritual parenting, when practised rightly, promises to be lovely, but when it is practised wrongly, it can be deadly.  What is spiritual parenting? By 'spiritual parenting' I mean the concept of a church leader playing the role of a parent to Christians whom they deem to be their children. The concept emerged through the idea that a shepherd takes care of the sheep as though the sheep were his or her own children.  Pastors are shepherds. They take care of God's flock and ensure their total well-being. Through this idea, bringing it down to the fact that Christians are persons but not animals, the pastor plays the role of a parent to Christians who are God's children. Notice here that s...

ALL-INCLUSIVE CHURCH

“ ‘In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams. Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days, and they will prophesy' " (Acts 2:17‭-‬18 NIV).  The church of God has continued for more than 2000 years. The highest authority of the church is the Bible. In it, there are few incidences of prejudice, stereotype, discrimination, classism and marginalisation which were all addressed in agreement with God's word and through the leading of the Spirit.  These are supposed to be lessons for new generation of spiritual leaders to equip the church to curtail all forms of discrimination in the church, and to prepare God's holy lovers as a glorious church for the second advent of Christ.  Unfortunately, today, there are yet incidences of discrimination happening in the family of God. Today's message addresses discrimin...

NEW CREATION LIFE

"For you have acquired new creation life which is continually being renewed into the likeness of the One who created you; giving you the full revelation of God" (Colossians 3:10 TPT).  Did you know that God wants you to have full revelation of him? A father who does not want his own child to fully know and fully understand him is sinister. God, the Father, is not sinister.  Contrary to popular opinion that no one can fully understand God, and that he ceases to be God if he can be fully understood, the Father wants you to fully know him and fully understand him so that you will become completely like him.  What the Father wants for you is intimacy with you. Intimacy requires that you fully know and fully understand each other. Intimacy with a person does not necessarily involve sexuality. Instead, it involves mutual understanding.  He could not have this kind of intimacy with the fallen human, so he recreated you and gave you the new creation life. The new creation li...
