Discipleship: Discipline/Self-control

Christian discipleship is about training new believers to master the discipline of Christ. We are not called to follow his footprints but his way of life as example for us. This involves a high degree of self-control. Christ was a man of absolute self-control.

In an age of increasing knowledge, you need to train your heart and your mind to distill knowledge before imbibing it. The Christian's heart is too pure to settle any kind of 'enlightenment' that contradicts or attempts to falsify the word of God. Many streams of false enlightenment flow across the internet and social media every now and then.

In a world where almost every kind of information can be accessed online, it affords young people the opportunity to secretly excite themselves sexually anytime, anywhere. All you need is a smart phone or tablet. To be able to withstand the increasing motivation for illicit sexual behaviours, you must train your mind, heart and body to disapprove lustful conversations and publications.

You have to be disciplined to maintain a life of prayer and the word. Different residences, different jobs and different groups of people offer different motivation for praying and occupying oneself in the word. You may think yourself to be too strong spiritually until you change residence, change job or even meet a different team in the workplace.

Faith is key but discipline is the key word in Christlikeness.

  1. The Spotless Agenda is a move towards a spotless church. Study, reason and question Scripture in order to find evidence of the truth. Remember, this is only achievable through the Holy Spirit.

  3. This is absolute truth. You really need the word and by the Spirit settle in your heart the right things. Oftentimes when you are surfing even the internet, certain ads of porn sites, betting, lottery etc just pops up and if you're not trained by the Spirit you're tempted to view with just a click.
I also a have testimony of the later part, where it talks about change of atmosphere or environment. It is absolute truth and I realized that when I left campus where it all fiery for the Lord for vacation (attachment) and at the workplace a whole lot which when you're untrained you can easily stain your garment. God bless you man of God.
