Many Christians in this generation have been asking themselves, "Is this really the church of Jesus Christ that the bible talks about?" How about asking yourself, "Am I really the Christian that the bible talks about?" The answer will guide you to make a proper judgment of the church today.
The Scripture says, "Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves. Do you not realize that Christ Jesus is in you—unless, of course, you fail the test? (2 Corinthians 13:5 NIV)
The forte of Christianity is to be aware and awake to the reality that Christ Jesus is in you. Hence you must regularly do a test of your awareness and awakening to the reality that Christ is in you. "Is Christ in me? How does this truth show out?" Self-examination is a spiritual exercise that leads to insightful application of the truth to your daily living.
If Christ is in you, what does it mean for you?
It means that you have the same nature as him, and the same character as him, therefore you can, and must live like him.
It also means that you have him so close to you that you can see him, hear him, feel him and connect to him in fellowship.
Again, it means that you have divine enablement to apply and to achieve positive results for your application of the truth to your daily living.
Spiritual growth is impossible when you lose touch with Jesus Christ. He is the stem and you are a branch connected to the stem. You receive spiritual sup from him so as to be nourished for spiritual growth. Self-examination helps you to ascertain whether you are connected to him or not.
Most times we think that others are just as we are until we truly experience them. If you think yourself less than others, you see others to be humble. But if you think yourself better than others, you see others to be proud. So when you are becoming overly critical of others, watch out, it is likely you are doing the same things that they are doing, only that, your very eyes do not see the errors that you are doing while you are busily talking about others' errors.
So, is this really the church of Jesus Christ? Yes, it is. The church today is like a wheat field mixed with tares. Tares are damaging weeds that grow in the field of grains. Tares resemble wheat so it is difficult to tell that they are not wheat except that their grains are black. So when they are growing among wheat, the farmer has to wait until they develop grains. Their grains will decide the difference.
The reason why many people do not see the true church of Jesus Christ today is that it is growing together with cults and pseudo-churches. What the pseudo-churches are doing seem to throw a dark halo around the true church of Jesus Christ. The true church of Jesus Christ is alive today. But here's the point: their fruit decides the difference.
As you examine Christians, leaders and local churches to tell whether they are true or false, do so by their fruit. Forget about their wealth and fame. Their fruit (obedience to the word) is the deciding difference.
