ETERNAL POSSESSIONS
For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also (Matthew 6:21 NIV).
The glory to which God has called you is eternal, that is, it lasts forever; does not fade, does not rust, does not rot, does not depreciate, does not deteriorate, does not diminish, does not vanish and does not get finished. What kind of substances fit these traits? Only heavenly substances!
"Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated on the right hand of God" (Colossians 3:1).
Where is Christ seated? Heaven, where God is. He is seated on the right hand of God, meaning he has assumed his office as the sovereign of the universe. There, he administers over the affairs of the world, and he appoints whom he wishes to rule in the world. He reigns as King of kings, and Lord of lords. To him be glory, now and forever, amen!
Christ is crowned as King in heaven. He glows with infinitudes of glory and radiates with absolute purity. He is being worshipped in heaven day and night. Has anyone remembrance of the temporary agony that he endured on the cross? Except for the purpose of proclaiming news of his salvation, we have no remembrance of his agony but his glory. Troubles are temporary but glory is eternal. Christ proves this to be true.
Is Christ naked as he was on the cross? Does he ask for water to drink as he asked on the cross? Does any soldier pierce his side as they did to him on the cross? Will he die again as he died on the cross? This also shows that troubles are temporary but glory is eternal.
Christ is not in heaven alone. He is there with the church—triumphant, militant and expectant. They are his treasure. He died for his treasure. He rose from the dead with his treasure. And now he reigns with his treasure.
Jesus' treasure were in the world suffering under the slave master of sin, sickness, poverty, fear and death. He came so that they might be free. He left his throne of light in heaven, came to dwell among men in the world, sought after and found his treasure who were in the world, and fitted them for heaven by his grace. Now you are part of Christ's eternal possessions. To him be glory!
Jesus said that where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. He demonstrated this verity by stepping down from his throne of light in heaven to be with his own who were in the world. Christ did not treat his throne of light as his treasure. He did not treat his myriads of angels as his treasure, not even his infinitudes of glory and power that majestically defined him as deity. He emptied himself of his divine glory just so that he could dwell among his own.
You are that single sheep which when he lost, he left the ninety-nine in heaven and came down from heaven to search for and to find. You are that single silver coin which when he lost, he left the nine and came down from heaven to search for and to find. You are not a nobody. You are one of Christ's eternal possessions.
Eternal possessions are possessions whose value is estimated at the cost of Christ's blood. Is any material worth the blood of Christ? Absolutely no! Christ died for eternal possessions not for material possessions.
Christ died for lost souls
Since there were lost souls in the world, Christ came down from heaven to save the lost. They were his treasure, and where his treasure was, there his heart was. Christ still has fiery eyes for lost souls. Now that he is not here bodily, you are an ambassador for Christ for the purpose of reconciling many more lost souls to God. Christ did not die for stupendous church building—I love stupendous church building—but it is not the reason why Christ died. So don't let your passion lie in putting up stupendous buildings as an achievement.
Christ died for faith
Christ died so that you who were once dead in sin, would be made alive by the Spirit through faith in his name. Faith, then, is an eternal possession worth nameless spiritual currencies.
Christ died for hope
Christ died so that you who were once hopeless and living a vain life, would have hope of glory. Now the hope that you had in God has been fulfilled by God sending Christ to dwell in you. Christ in you is the assurance of nameless eternal blessings. Hope, then, is another eternal possession.
Christ died for love
Christ died so that you who had no knowledge of goodness and kindness, would be filled with love, doing good and being kind to others. Christ completely fills you with the fulness of divine love. Love, then, is another eternal possession.
Christ died for divine health and divine wealth
In Christ, our health and our wealth lie in the glory of God which is in us. The Holy Spirit is God's glory in man. He fills you with the fulness of divine power for health and divine wisdom for wealth. Christ in you is the assurance of divine health and divine wealth.
Don't pity a Christian
Don't be a pitiful Christian to be pitied by men. Be a dutiful Christian to be put on duty. A dutiful Christian demonstrates a sense of duty or responsibility. Don't be begging for help all the time.
You have so much eternal possessions within you, namely, faith, hope, love; joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control, by which you may be of help to a needy person—not only the financially handicapped but also the spiritually handicapped.
Set your mind to a high sense of duty or responsibility. Create a role for yourself even if you are not given a role to play in the working space. The call of the Christian is also a call to responsibility.
Responsible for the lost
Soul winning is every Christian's duty. Reconciling the lost to God is every Christian's calling. Be responsible for the lost within your sphere of contact. Your sphere of contact is your own world. Reign over your own world with the gospel.
Say to yourself, "The value of my life is how many souls I win to Christ and fit for heaven."
